Hotels in Spain follow a national star rating similar to that throughout Europe for full service or less than full service hotels and this scheme principally covers city centre hotels. The star rating system is very rigidly enforced and gives a lot of assurance to prospective visitors as to quality standards and service levels. However, Spain also has other types of hotels accommodation, principally outside city centres but also sometimes centrally which deserve consideration, especially if you enjoy soaking up some of the local styles and standards rather than staying in group hotel that could be anywhere in Europe. Princxipally, these type of hotels and accommodation break into Casa Rural and Alojamiento Rural. The distinction between these are: • Casa Rural: a Casa Rural is a type of rural hotel-style accommodation – often in city suburbs and small towns - provided to standards firmly laid down that includes accessibility provision and is usually quite small and often personally managed by the owners with a degree of close personal attention not found in conventional hotels. There no conventions about the style a Casa Rural must follow and the style is very often also very much the owner’s personal style and taste. That said, standards at a Casa Rural are often as high as in a conventional 3 star hotel although the services offered may be less – a casa rural may well not have a full restaurant, for example, although most do offer breakfast and some offer snacks or have adjoining public restaurants. • Alojamiento Rural: an Alojamiento Rural is less regulated than a casa rural and typically, although not exclusively, are to be found in small towns and out in the countryside. Cortijos (see our page on these) at normally ranked as alojamiento rural and provide a complete house with full services and amenities for you to thoroughly enjoy during your stay. Small town hotels may also be alojamitento rural and provide less than a hotel or casa rural in some respects – food is normally not provided, for example. However, standards of alojamiento rural are normally quite high and it should not be assumed that the designation as alojamiento rural means the property is always of a lower standard than a casa rural. At ApartmentsHotelsGranada.com we aim to offer you a good range of casa rural and alojamiento rural to meet your hotel level accommodation needs during your stay in Granada. Each property listed has been personally visited by us and is recommended by us.
